La cuarentena y asilamiento en la que están viviendo millones de personas en el mundo a causa de la pandemia por coronavirus (COVID-19) declarada el 11 de marzo por La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), puede tener repercusiones inesperadas en el futuro.

La Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) alertó sobre la escasez mundial de condones, según la ONU, solamente podrá cubrirse entre el 50 y 60% de los pedidos habituales de preservativos. Este porcentaje se suman a los 200 millones de mujeres en el mundo que no pueden evitar embarazos o enfermedades de trasmisión sexual (ETS), debido a diferentes tipos de barreras como; falta de información, nula autonomía en sus decisiones, barreras culturales o legales, etcétera.

Es especialmente preocupante en América Latina, África y Asia, donde la situación de habitabilidad de gran parte de la población es precaria y se enfrentan a deficiencias previas en los servicios públicos de salud y de atención social, sobre todo en lo que respecta a salud sexual y reproductiva.

Algunos demógrafos piensan que el estar aislados por varias semanas va a ser un factor que incida en un posible ‘boom’ de natalidad para finales de 2020 y para inicios del 2021.
